a choral suite of songs of the seaarranged by Douglas CoombesTTBB & pianoThe five songs in this choral suite are La Pique (trad. English), Full Fathom Five (adapted from the song by Purcell), A-Roving (trad. English), Mary Ann (trad. Canadian) & Bound for the Rio Grande (trad. English). They make a substantial concert group, though the songs can be performed separately with equal effect and are based on shanties, with the exception of the Purcell setting of Shakespeare's words Full Fathom Five, which has been reworked in this suite. Some songs call for a solo tenor, however, in the absence of such, a small group of singers taking that part would suffice. The arrangements, written for the Huntingdon Male Voice Choir and their dedicated to their director, Peter Davies, are highly accessible. Duration of songs varies between 2'30" and 3'00" each.ISBN 0 85957 069 X
Douglas Coombes [after G.F.Handel based on 'Hallelujah Chorus']TTBB with keyboard accompaniment, of moderate difficulty, but of maximum excitement, this re-working of Handel's best known chorus by Douglas Coombes will have your audiences rocking in the aisles! There is a strong rock-gospel feel about this piece which choirs will love performing. The accompaniment works well on piano, but lends itself to electronic keyboard treatment too. This version was especially created for the 'Men's Summer Harmony Chorus' of Emmaus, Pennsylvania, USA.Listen to a performance CLICK HERE
Words: Arthur O'Shaughnessy (1844-1891)Melody by members of the National Association of Choirs Annual Conference 2017Arranged: Douglas CoombesIn a melody-writing session at the National Association of Choirs (NAC) Annual Conference in 2017, led by Douglas Coombes, the tune for Arthur O-Shaughnessy's highly optimistic and forward-looking words was composed collaboratively. To enable all members of the NAC to be able to sing the piece, Douglas Coombes has produced three separate arrangements, which in the case of massed forces, can be sung together at the same time - SSA, SATB and TTBB. Each of the arrangements also contains an optional descant in the final verse. A highly lyrical piece with rhythmic under-pinning in the piano part, which is of moderate difficulty.
